History: Born Velshorn K'Tan, he lived in Freeport most of his early life. From a young age, his family had an inkling at his innate gift of Rage. His family nurtured it, believing it was a sign that Innoruuk was not dead and had blessed them. He joined the militia at an early age and learned the arts of combat. He excelled in tactical strategy as well as frontline combat. It was in the militia that he earned the moniker, the Gentle Rager.

Though he was possesed of the Rage and could tap into it lightly, he was a rather jovial and gentle youngling. He was pretty popular with most of his platoon and even the harsh commanders cracked an occasional smile. It all went south from that point. After his discharge from the militia, he and his family took a few weeks and left Freeport on a holiday. No where in particular just going to get away from the bustle of the city. While camping, everyone was ambushed by various groups of orcs and gnolls. They attacked and attacked mercillessly, looking for flesh and spoils. He defended his family and felt himself slide deeper into the Rage, deeper than he ever had been.

Finally, suddenly, his youngest sister was struck down in cold blood. He blacked out. When he came too, he was surrounded by a mountain of corpses....including his family. He drifted for many years, trying to condsider what had happened to him, dealing with his own disgust and shock at his lack of control. He vowed it would never happen again and focused his energy on harnessing his fearsome gift. Finally, simply, he forgave himself and accepted what he is and what it meant. He returned to Freeport, knowing that his holdings would have been gobbled up by the Overlord, he disavowed his family name and went simply by Velshorn. He now works as a mercenary, doing odd jobs for members of Freeport. He has picked up a traveling companion in the young and rather snobbish Avalyssa. Hired as a bodyguard, he traveled and helped her achieve her goals, while getting his work done too. Lately, she's been rather rude and belligerent towards him, of which they have had several 'discussions' and now sees himself as a caretaker and guide for the seemingly wayward girl.He cast his lot in with and joined the Harvest Reborn, dragging Ava with him. He spent a few years serving Kirsirah and Duvessa as a soldier and fighter. It was during his years with the Harvest that he met Ayalin Tir'Kiet. They grew close as friends and lovers, and it was his honor that she chose him to father a long wanted child.

Shortly after his daughter was born, he left the Harvest to focus his energies on his daughter.Soon, after breaking ties with the Harvest, Velshorn disappeared. He was kidnapped by a secretive cabal of mages and clerics of Innoruuk. With omens pointing to the return of the gods, the clerics wanted a weapon to herald the return of the Father of Hate. They captured Vel, and bound to his raging soul a Piece of Hate, carving complex runes on his chest. The burden of a mortal body containing such a thing was taxing, even for a young and healthy mortal. Vel slipped into a comatose state, and the Hate went dormant for a time, until the host was strong enough.Vel re-emerged some time later. Time had passed. Ayalin had joined with Silver Circle and his daughter was no longer a swaddling infant. Confused, angry, and needing direction; he joined as a soldier of the Blades. He served as a protector and fighter, gaining rank and eventually becoming Captain of the Blades.

The Hate, sensing it's host to be strong and capable, awoke. Members of the Silver Circle tried to contain him. Several died, including Yunfei Sul'Egna and her unborn child. In her death throes, she was able to reach out and strike at the Hate, forcing it back into dormancy and nearly killing Vel in the process.Taken away and hidden by his friend Jerimin, he came to and discovered what had happened. He turned himself over to the Circle for the deeds committed. Yunfei's father, Xannis, broke the bindings and tore the flesh from Vel, ripping the Hate from him. It would not go easily and took Vel's soul with it, screaming into the Plane of Hate, leaving his body a walking corpse.Through means he's not even sure of, his soul clawed it's way out of the Plane of Hate. Ayalin helped him to recover as much as she could, but the experience left him scarred. He sequestered himself away from everything, focusing on Ayalin and Sylune, attempting to piece himself back together. The discovery of Kunark and with money running low, he's emerged again looking for work.

*tucks a jewel tipped hairpin back into her midnight hair.

This one has less hate than any Teir'dal I've met. I'm not sure what gave him the idea that I needed to be 'protected from myself'. And I'm not rude, I'm merely truthful. If that truth comes out in less than flattering terms then why am I to blame?

*smiles* At first I viewed this one as a rival in my battle to convince Avalyssa she will get more enjoyment out of me alive rather than dead. But after clearing some areas of the land surrounding the city together, I now see him as an ally in my continuing struggle to keep her from taking herself too seriously. I think he may in time become one of the few whom I call friend and truly mean it. *chuckles* That will drive Avalyssa mad.

Velshorn is, I think, good for Avalyssa. He will not be all that she needs, and he has the wisdom to see this. I think perhaps he wonders a bit at my attentions to Avalyssa, though I am not sure what form his thoughts take. I don't know him that well yet, though I wonder what will become of him. If he lacks as much hate as Avalyssa claims... she could well destroy him.

He is a steadying influence on my niece Avalyssa and no one can doubt that he has been a good friend to her. He is generous and patient, two characteristics that he has honed to a greater extent than most Teir'dal. That is not to say he does not have an eventual limit and a point where his temper will snap. He is a bezerker after all.

Watching him and Larsten as we tried to carry out our missions completing Writs for the city, I could not help but smile. The two are friends as thick as proverbial theives.

My niece could not have better company.

He's... diferent for a Teir'Dal. He has that noble aura around himself and his actions are... kind of a gentleman you know. He's very friendly, nice to talk to and very helpful. We've a deal in process, I need to find 2 rare clusters of feysteel and that way he'll craft 2 new stilettos for me at a much cheaper price. So that's nice and kind of him, especially because most Teir'Dal tends to frown upon or ignore Ayr'Dals like me.

He has not shown much else about his personality, just some teasing and such you know, but it was fun after all *giggles*

A lively fellow, very pleasant. For the brief moment I spoke with him, I enjoyed his company. Hopefully he is a face I will continue to spot inside the tavern in the future.

Velshorn. Someone that I once considered a friend, close to my heart. And someone that I owe a debt, for he taught me a valuable lesson: the old ways are dead; there is no more honor or fealty or code. I made the mistake of putting my heart before House and my daughter paid with her life, and it is not a lesson I will ever forget. I see him from time to time and I watch him; does he remember me? When last we were face to face he seemed a shell. It may have been an act to save his skin. I put nothing past anyone anymore. All I feel when I see him is a vague sense of loss and numb sadness, wistfullness for what could have been, and a vague sense of rage at the betrayal of it all. I push it away. I miss him, and that makes me angry I suppose, but then, that is my own battle, mm? I am allowed my small foolishness. I hope him happiness and peace. I found mine in the end, for I accepted this world of cold truth, and no longer expect anything but betrayal from most. Easier I suppose, in the end. I found happiness from it, oddly enough. Again, I owe him thanks. Someday, I will tell him. Someday.Vakarina Val`Kavek

He was a protector, a friend, and meant much to me. I have not seen him since everything went so horribly wrong, but I do not care. He is still one of the best friends and advisors I have ever had.
