My songs

Post by Avith » 06/12/12

I am not a writer or poet by any stretch of the imagination. I am a musician. But, when writing music one does have to come up with lyrics. I thought I'd post some of my lyrics to my more popular original tunes here to see what you all think.

Remember, these are song lyrics, not poetry.

I'll start with this one:

Funny Thing

There's an empty cigarette pack by the empty glass
on the nightstand on the side of my bed
As I clean up after your visit last night
I try to remember your face, picture it in my head

The phone rang I remember, later that night
Guess I was too busy to notice then
I heard your voice coming out of the machine
You asked next week, when can I pencil you in

(Chorus)
It's a funny thing, the way we are
I'm not so sure, what way are we?
I can't figure out what we're doing here
Am I waiting for you, or are you waiting for me?
Am I waiting for you, or are you waiting for me?

I went through the motions of going to bed
Did you really fill that empty space last night?
A rainbow can fill up the sky with beauty and light
But it's only an illusion
No substance at all

(Chorus)
It's a funny thing, the way we are
I'm not so sure, what way are we?
I can't figure out what we're doing here
Am I waiting for you, or are you waiting for me?
Am I waiting for you, or are you waiting for me?

(Bridge)
No promises, no commitments
no companionship, disassociation
I'm not alone, but I'm alone
You're there but you're really not there
Out of touch, just beyond my reach
Out of sight
Out of mind
Out of heart

(Chorus)
It's a funny thing, the way we are
I'm not so sure, what way are we?
I can't figure out what we're doing here
Am I waiting for you, or are you waiting for me?
Am I waiting for you, or are you waiting for me?

This one is a song written for drums only. We performed it using congas and djembe with dual female vocals in harmony throughout

Division

I watched her reach her hand out, stretch it far into the night
Thinks she can touch the stars, maybe she will tonight

I'm not trying to cloud her or want to bring her down
I don't plan to misdirect her or turn her around

I feel division, I feel divine, I feel distraction, she's got my mind

I can almost touch her, almost feel
the strength in her soul trying to break the seal

New found indifference scares me, how can it be that way
Then the coldness in her eyes just simply melts away

I feel division, I feel divine, I feel distraction, she's got my mind

I can feel her heart, I can see her light
hidden deep inside, locked away so tight

I look up, I look around
She's in my mirror, to her I'm bound

I can see inside only if I dare
she sits right here, seems everywhere
And then I look at her hair and the color of her eyes
looks so familiar to me, but it's all a disguise

I feel division, I feel divine, I feel distraction, she's got my mind

I can feel her heart, I can see her light
hidden deep inside, locked away so tight

I look up, I look around
She's in my mirror, to her I'm bound
