Details:The Soulfire is an exclusive establishment that caters to the fine citizens of Freeport. It offers a temporary escape from the daily chore of keeping on Lucan's tolerated side, indulging its members in a safe environment where they can relax and enjoy fine food and drink over good conversation and entertainment. The establishment has had a number of policies that have not changed since opening, including:

  • Dress to impress.
  • Stay Classy.
  • Leave the war (and weapons) at the door.
  • No pets.

There is also an unwritten rule concerning donations. Generally, we ask that patrons contribute 5g (or what they can afford) towards the upkeep of the establishment (rent, decoration) and the paying of staff. This is a one-time donation, rather like a country club's membership fee rather than a cover charge. Yes, we pay the staff. Some people are far more generous, of course, and we are trying to come up with a way to thank you for your contributions.

Notes:

If you want your storyline to run through this establishment, please notify me in advance so that I may work with the staff to better facilitate the success of this part of the story arc. If patrons are suspicious of any shenanigans, they are welcome to ask the staff OOCly if there is plot going on. This will be answered with a simple yes or no, so as to preserve the fourth wall. If we are not informed, all strange happenings (poison, attacks, etc) should be dismissed by patrons as not happening.

We work very hard to provide a safe, structured place for RP and want to continue to do so.

Please be advised of the following : Freeport is not friendly with Qeynos. This has been in the Soulfire's rules from the beginning but had slacked off a bit due to a spell of terribly slow business: As with attending events like the Spider or the Festival of Unity, if you are not of the proper alignment to be there as yourself be smart. Come disguised. Due to her understandable shock and horror at being brazenly invaded by the Vagabond Knights, Euryale will be far less tolerant of Qeynosians and Kelethinians being flagrant in her bar. She does not want to go to jail, for being a perceived traitor, anyway. There are more entertaining laws to break.

The Soulfire (Freeport)
A Transcription of the Deposition of Dame Euryale Kyr'Eris to Knight-Lieutennant Shahaolein of the Freeport Militia, Concerning the Recent Sightings of Vagabond Knights in the Soulfire

Dame Euryale Kyr'Eris states: It is not, as a general rule, standard procedure for the Soulfire to allow citizens of Qeynos and Kelethin through its doors unless said individual has an affiliation that deems them a friend of Freeport and the Overlord.

OOC translation: If you are flying Freeport or Neriak guild colors, but live in Qeynos or Kelethin, you are evil by association. That means, you must be openly wearing your guild cloak. If another patron knows you are from Qeynos and you are not flying your guild colors, you can be removed and possibly turned over for arrest as a spy.

Dame Euryale Kyr'Eris states: We admit that we are unable to keep a portrait-book of all known citizens of Qeynos and Kelethin on hand for comparsion with those seeking entrance into our establishment. This regrettable fact may be the cause of inadvertant slips in judgement by our staff.

OOC translation: Unless there is a clear indication that someone is from Qeynos or Kelethin, we don't know them from Adam, proverbially. Our characters have no clue and no way of knowing...and for the most part I don't know where the hell people are from. Race is not an indicator of citizenship (thank you oh so much betrayal quests), and you can't tell class from looking, and lastly, we don't allow pets of any sort in the Soulfire for reasons of a) the mess they can make and more importantly b) lag.

Dame Euryale Kyr'Eris states: Until such time as the Overlord's Militia does us the honor of providing us with detailed descriptions of individuals with known aliases, as well as descriptions of those aliases, we can do nothing about the use of illusions by unscrupulous individuals to gain admittance.

OOC translation: If you are from Qeynos or Kelethin and not in a Freeport or Neriak affiliated guild, don't walk in wearing your everyday face. Please. Do us the honor of conceeding that SOE's game mechanics for a perpetual lukewarm war between the cities is hopelessly inadequate (note the gray epic guards in NFP) and play along with the idea that the Militia have a general idea of who does and does not belong. Use a petrified eye or other illusion and help keep up the greater illusion of danger to citizens of rival cities.

Dame Euryale Kyr'Eris states: Citizens of Gorowyn are accepted without question on the basis of the anti-aggression treaty between Freeport and the aforementioned.

OOC translation: Neutral city. Nuff said.In closing, I submit the following:

A more detailed spelling-out of the other policies in force not previously covered

  • Dress to impress: Be dressed. In nice clothes that match. Ceremonial plate or chain armor is acceptable. People not adhering to the dress code will be escorted out.

  • Stay classy: The Soulfire is the equivalent of all the posh mobster clubs you've ever seen in films. Don't talk shop in tones that the entire establishment can hear. Don't grab at or pinch the waitstaff. Don't forget to tip the staff if they're doing a good job. Don't blow past the doorman like he's not there, wait in line like decent folk and RP with him and everyone else.

  • Leave the war (and weapons at the door): Besides wanting to know if you're running violent plot through our club (for reasons stated above), we also remind everyone that there is no fighting inside the Soulfire. Rank is no insulation from the cruel fist of Fate jerking you outside and depositing you at Rakkoth's feet. I don't care who you are. No. Fighting. Take it outside yourselves or we'll be more than happy to help you do so if you forgot where the door is.The garden is not, for the purposes of this rule, considered "outside."No, ceremonial weapons are not permitted. They may be mostly for show, but they are still good for at least one or two hits. We also understand that the surrender of visible weapons is symbolic, as we do not gag mages or bind the hands of brawlers. We also don't pat people down.

If this is all abundantly clear, then game on. If you have questions about any part of this policy, please feel free to PM me at your leisure. - GP

* My presence or lack thereof has no bearing on people hanging out after the bar has officially closed. We officially stop serving at 12am Eastern, however patrons are welcome to enjoy their last drinks until the cows come home as long as they are not being disruptive about it.

* Unless otherwise stated in the "Wine and Dine" thread, the Soulfire is always open on Monday nights. We may be short-staffed and therefore need to press-gang a few people into temporary service, but we're open. If we can open during the post-Kunark expanison lag hell with a staff of just me, a hurricane isn't going to shut our doors. *grin*

* Patrons are not permitted to harass other patrons. Staff are not permitted to throw out patrons unless the rules are being explicitly broken. Staff are listed above. If someone is not on the list, they are not staff unless someone on the list has hired them recently. I will try to keep our staff listing as current as humanly possible.

Hopefully this will clear up a couple bouts of confusion regarding last week.

Further suggestions:

A fine dining establishment is probably not the best place to talk about:

your flesh-crafting (or other rather grotesque) hobby
your side business as a drug trafficker or other illegitimate businessperson
    your exceptionally kinky sex life

Please. This is part of the "Stay classy" rule.

It grieves me to have to make a post like this, however:

1) If you are not staff, don't go behind the bar. Thank you. You do not belong there, and if the bartender is gone, it probably means it's after 12am EST and we're officially done serving drinks.

I reiterate: if you are not staff, do not go behind the bar. If you have any doubts as to whether you are staff, you aren't.

2) Unless the staff is aware of things, any RP of a harmful nature has not occurred and should be refused on principle. We do not allow people behind the bar, we do not keep cleaning supplies where patrons can get to them, and we certainly will not permit people to masquerade as staff and give away liquor.

3) We would ask the assistance of the Knights of Freeport, or any other law enforcement agency in the Soulfire at the time of the violation of Freeport Civil Code regarding the rights of innkeepers to assist us in not having our property stolen and our person and establishment defrauded.

4) No food service establishment would keep cleaning chemicals of any sort near the food. That's just stupid. And a health code violation to boot.

5) Do not assume that you know what's where behind the bar in the Soulfire unless you are staff. Eury's labeled nearly everything in her own private shorthand and arranged things accordingly. So, unless she's trained you (you're cleared to bartend), there is no way of knowing where the rum is or whether or not it's already gone. Anyway, you already know you shouldn't be behind the bar in the first place unless you're staff.

If the generosity of the Soulfire staff to allow patrons to linger and enjoy one another's company after official close is going to be abused in the absence of any official staff, I will simply have to set access to none at twelve o'clock and that is that.

Yet more regulations:

No coming in invisible. No, no, no. That is a trigger to staff to haul you right back out because you're clearly there to start something if you can't walk in like a normal person.

Also, I am installing a Magic Mouth to recite all our lovely rules, so there are no more excuses about people not knowing. This also means nobody is stuck at the front door any more! Yays!

For the frillionth time, please do not run plot in my bar unless you've let me know beforehand and made sure I've had time to prep the staff. Otherwise, we'll generally neg your bit by throwing you out or otherwise calling shenanigans on whatever you did to his/her/its drink.

As an aside, I would like to throw up a shout-out to Kikiriki (sp) and Sairina for running so beautifully with the ball last Monday. You ladies did a spectacular job enforcing the law and keeping the peace alongside this humble tavern owner.

I've finally gotten caught up with this newfangled character-created book thing, so the Soulfire has its winter menu on the bar for your perusal! Included are our seasonal drinks and meal specials. Eventually, it will also include the special event meals (Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's) - but those meals will only be available on the "party" days or by special arrangement with the staff beforehand.

Hopefully I will remember to make up a book for the other three seasons and their attendant worthwhile celebrations. I've got two other books, so I'm good through summer, I just need to copy, paste, and edit information I already have into 'em.

On the Soulfire's various levels of protection:

Since it came up last night (for the second time in about a month), I feel I should elaborate on Euryale's very Romanesque protection of "her" bar from the ill intentions of potential patrons. Yes, if we catch you being violent we will toss you out on your ear and we will resort to using /house and set access = none for you if you are going to be resistant to owning up to the consequences of your actions. However, there is more to the defenses of the Soulfire than just our superlative staff and their biting sarcasm.

Back when the Soulfire first opened, Azaelia blessed it in the name of Innoruuk at Njal's behest. As Euryale is not an Inquisitor of any note (although she knows all the words for all the rites and rituals of the Faithful off by heart) and she is a mistrustful bitch, she has taken it upon herself to maintain something of that blessing in her own way. She has, essentially, put a curse on the place that makes it difficult for anyone wishing the business or its patrons ill to cross the threshold in any manner - be it over the door, through a window, or over the garden fence. Consider it something of a controlled haunting, if that helps - the spirits Euryale has invoked in her ritual take a very dim view of anyone messing about and will stop at very little to drive away potential threats, so symptoms of being under supernatural attack (or really high EMF) apply. They include but are not limited to:

    * Dizziness
    * Nausea
    * The sense one is being watched
    * Hallucinations

This is why we need to know in advance if Plot is going to happen...because otherwise, the discomfort caused by the curse would keep "bad guys" from getting in the building at all or even staying very long if they managed to get inside. If someone develops ill intent while inside, the "prickliness" of the environment would escalate accordingly. Without clearing it with me and/or the staff (but particularly me since I'm there hell or high water) in advance -not right before you want to set the action in motion- there is no getting around this, just like there is no getting around the ward in the Raven against violence. Eury's not a wizard, so she can't do anything quite so flashy.

Euryale is tied into the spell, and will therefore be aware if the parameters of the curse have been tripped wherever she is within the establishment.

Effective Immediately: The reptile known as Bacon is henceforth to be known as a Free Citizen and not, as previously listed, a pet.

((Due to the fact that Bacon-lizard has taken on a life of his own outside of Ainaree's influence, the staff hereby declare Bacon to be considered as a patron.))
