This game looks like something I'd enjoy immensely. But I don't own a console.

Don't need one, it's coming out for PC also... just like all Mass Effects and Dragon Ages.

We've seen plenty about combat, but how about a bit on the other major theme of Andromeda - exploration and discovery!

This may wind up being my birthday gift to myself.

I'm a little disappointed, though. Some of the combat teasers seemed to imply they were moving to a more actiony combat system rather than cover shooter. Doesn't seem to be the case, though. :(

Wow. Andromeda has been getting a lot of critism. I'll still get it, but now I'm thinking I'll wait till it's on sale. But perhaps this is the most disheartening I've seen about it:

From the gameplay videos I've watched, I can see what people mean about the faces. At the same time, it doesn't bug me as much as it seems to bug a lot of people. I guess being raised on pixel graphics, I can just shrug it off because I've seen worse. It's still a problem, but not a deal breaking problem.

I actually gave my brother's copy of this on Xbox a try tonight. I'm finding the face thing jarring. Maybe I'm looking back with rose colored glasses, but I feel like the previous games had better faces.

Oh, they certainly did. I'm not saying it's not a problem, just not one I can't live with. I don't think it deserves the high levels of venom people are spewing at it by a long shot. The game still looks pretty solid, the story seems fun, and I still really wish I could run the damn thing on my crap laptop.

My understanding is that a lot of the damage done to the animations can be attributed to shortcuts they had to take to meet EA's time crunch. Pretty much the same thing that happened to the last part of ME3. I seem to recall reading that ME3's story wasn't what they wanted in the end, but EA's scheduling and several other policies made the massive undertaking they wanted impossible... :( The whole dark energy thing from Tali's recruitment mission in ME2 was supposed to be the big looming threat. They wound up having to cut that and dial the Reapers up to 11 to give a story line they could fit into their schedule and please the great and powerful EA. And they simply couldn't make an ending that properly accounted for all the possible impacts the player had on the galaxy throughout the series.

Things I've heard may be wrong, though. Just seems EA is more concerned with getting products out the door than making sure they're actually good, and so many properties have suffered from it after they've absorbed the studios that made them.

"I’ve spent the past three months investigating the answers to those questions. From conversations with nearly a dozen people who worked on Mass Effect: Andromeda, all of whom spoke under condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to talk about the game, a consistent picture has emerged. The development of Andromeda was turbulent and troubled, marred by a director change, multiple major re-scopes, an understaffed animation team, technological challenges, communication issues, office politics, a compressed timeline, and brutal crunch.

Mass Effect: Andromeda was in development for five years, but by most accounts, BioWare built the bulk of the game in less than 18 months. This is the story of what happened."
