Re: Discovery: Star Trek Returns to Television???

The problem arises when one person (or a group of people in this case) imposes their own standards for how they interact with Star Trek on everyone else. But rather than accepting that, these gatekeepers decide that their opinions are fact. And then they try and impose their will and judgment on ot...

Re: Discovery: Star Trek Returns to Television???

Most of what we know of Spock's family life was given to us via ST:TAS and later novels... other than what TNG gave us later. Personally, I don't count Abram's stuff as canon.

Re: Discovery: Star Trek Returns to Television???

The scene in question is from the mid season cliffhanger(ish) and, yeah... they showed what the smart viewers among us had already figured out. Torture wasn't the only thing going on between our new head of security and scar-faced Klingon interrogator woman. Frankly, I was far more worried about Sta...

Re: Discovery: Star Trek Returns to Television???

Slipps, you just made my head go 'spoldey. Not fair. But hilarious. @Tregarde: Yeah, I had that same thought watching. It was "Wait... this is supposed to be the Organians, guys... and in the future..." But the show is getting better as it finds its feet. Dunno. Honestly the Klingons aren't enough t...

Re: Discovery: Star Trek Returns to Television???

Do you honestly believe that they give a Tribble's ass about canon?

Re: Discovery: Star Trek Returns to Television???

I *loved* the way they updated Stella and still gave her that same garish outfit and voice from TOS. The show seems to be slowly finding its feet. I especially liked seeing the Pahvans in the last episode. They are showing us some of those "strange, new worlds" we want. Now to see if they keep it up...

Re: Discovery: Star Trek Returns to Television???

The show has definitely gotten better with the past two episodes.
Harry Mudd is definitely my fav new character. Make a show around him.

Re: The Orville (Star Trek Homage)

Majority Rules was f*cking brilliant. They not only showed us the ultimate evolution of our societal trend, to top it off they have the crew of the Orville "save the day" by implementing a solution that is CLEARLY meant to show the American public exactly how Russia just screwed our last election. A...

Re: Discovery: Star Trek Returns to Television???

I think you nailed it, Tregarde. It's decent sci fi, it's just not... Trek... yet. It's hard to quantify. As far as Lorca goes... we are after the creation of the Prime Directive, are we not? That was one of the founding principles of the Federation (if not always Starfleet) but I'm pretty certain i...

Re: Discovery: Star Trek Returns to Television???

Yes, Star Trek officers (officially) dropped the F bomb. Twice in succession, in fact. I admit that my mouth hung open for several moments. It felt organic to the moment and character(s), however. This week they also gave us a very nice take on Harry Mudd. That part was well done and I hope the acto...

Re: Discovery: Star Trek Returns to Television???

Ditto on your thoughts, Tregarde, but I'm still getting NO "Trek" feel to the show at all. The ring's purpose is... interesting. Note I didn't say 'practical'. Still got left with a WTF? Where is this going? Do they KNOW where this is going? Feeling after E4. I'm giving it one or two more episodes b...

Re: Discovery: Star Trek Returns to Television???

That's the most logical explanation of the ring segments I've heard yet. Containment does make sense.
I'm rather under the impression right now that the whole of Discovery is Section 31.

Tribble boy seems to have no problem getting to his objective any way he can at this point.

Re: Discovery: Star Trek Returns to Television???

Agreed. The episode was miles better than the first two, but still was really disjointed. I mean, just WTF kind of ship IS Discovery, anyway? Is this the beginnings of... oh hell, what was it... Section 32? 23? Too lazy to look it up at the moment. You know, the ultra secret badboy operatives of Sta...

Re: The Orville (Star Trek Homage)

Holy crap. Episode 3... Holy crap. Remember what I said about 'if Seth tones down the dumbshit and plays it straight'? This is the culmination of that thought and as well as being one of THE BEST pieces of sci-fi I've seen in a LONG time, it's sold me on the show. Seth GETS IT. Seriously. Watch it, ...

Hahaha! He had some great one liners in there.

SO... 9 out of 10 fans agree:

Orville is Trek, Discovery is... well, we don't know just what, but it ain't Trek.

Yeah, called that way back. How they thought they were going to avoid it is beyond me. Putting it on All Access was tantamount to begging people to torrent.

Re: Discovery: Star Trek Returns to Television???

Watched the first two last night. No, I don't have All Access, and I'm NOT going to get it. Psia (and others before her as she points out) are correct- the first half (hell, the whole thing) is nothing more than a shameless cash grab/ad for CBS. Speaking of the ads... WTF? I'm sure there was a show ...

Re: The Orville (Star Trek spoof)

I've watched the first two.... waiting until the third episode before reviewing.

So far, I actually *like* what I see. This *could* work, and work well.
