Caffe's random stuff...

Post by Caffe » 05/05/09

Thought I might start putting up some sketches and random art...

I used to draw/paint/whatever a longtime ago, but stopped...for various reasons. Think I am going to start back up...

Here is a sketch of Caffe...I plan on inking it on paper, though I think I will also dink around in GIMP for fun. I'll post its progress if I think it doesn't suck too bad.

Very nice! You have a great sense of where things rest in space, too. I love the sketchy dog! :D

I just cannot do this type of sketchy work and I really love it when I see it done well.

I really enjoy the implications of highlights on Caffe's face and the way you did her eyes.

Very nice, Caffe!! Let me dig about a bit and see if I can find you some Photoshop brushes ... you are using photoshop aren't you? If you are, I have some good brushes for Photoshop. I'll post them here somehow, if I can.

I am. I had been using GIMP a tiny bit to clean up the scans and such, but seems that the Wacom like PS better...so I switched.

Thanks! Though I really have no idea what you mean by "brushes". All of this digital art is rather new to me. Give me a week or 2.

brushes are how you make strokes that mimic real strokes. Instead of drawing with what is basically a circle, which gives you a consistent, even line, you can draw with brushes that mimic shapes of real things...like pens held at an angle, or wet/dry paintbrushes.

when you get more used to digital i would recommend purchasing paint tool sai i don't even touch photoshop any more except for font stuff. It's like 55 dollars and amazing for colouring and inking. Most people used to digital swear by sai I sure do.

Actually, if you decide to look for a painter program, I'd go with Painter or with Open Canvas. The results from both are very smooth. Open Canvas, like SAI, is a Japanese program, but they offer an English version from the publisher.

Sai is also in english and offered from the publisher. I don't really like Oc anymore for lines though yes OC? still better than PS for line art imho, and Painter is amazing but hella expensive if you go the normal route. We got it free from the school so I do use it just not for line art. I looove painter for texture and colours

Starting to line it...I kind of stink at this and would appreciate any feedback. I'm thinking that besides the obvious "Your anatomy sucks!" that I need to use thicker lines.

when you post, there is a tag called imgflex - it's the 5th from the right :-) Use it and your pretty images will magically resize. You do very very pretty work /smiles. I'd love to see more!

I like this one, its the sort of surreal image that gets me interested. I might suggest using the imgflex option though..
